The Sub-Machine offers comprehensive subtitling services – closed and open captions, transcriptions and translations – in all South African languages, including Sign Language. We also provide this service in a selection of widely spoken foreign languages at excellent rates. All our sub-machiners are persons with disabilities who have been trained and accredited to deliver a professional, hassle-free service.
Typically, The Sub-Machine works on movies, television series, documentaries, foreign language films, boardroom minutes, recorded videoconference calls and public health campaigns. Being unique in more ways than one, we can work off-site or side by side with your post-production team, depending on your needs. We even take care of playouts and uploading to your clients for approval. We use Adobe Premiere Pro and our prices are highly competitive.

Meet the five sub-machiners

HANRI
Hanri was born with Miller syndrome, a rare disorder that led to her hearing becoming severely impaired. She has faced many challenges in the workplace, mostly because her disability is rarely accommodated, but she has become indispensable to The Sub-Machine.

THABANG
Thabang is a wheelchair user whose disability has turned him into a keen problem solver – a prized asset in the often chaotic media landscape. He completed The Sub-Machine’s training programme to launch a media career and represents what can be achieved with a simple hand-up.
“The Sub Machine has made our work environment nurturing and full of learning and growth opportunities. We work efficiently and with slick procedures. I really love working here.”
